Inspired Life Tapping

TAPPING 101

Emotional Freedom Techniques or EFT combines elements of traditional psychotherapy with acupressure stimulation.

Put simply, the practice involves gently tapping on specific meridian points of your body while vocalizing and focusing on traumatic memories, emotional experiences, or physical sensations that you want to alleviate.

How To Tap Manual

Ready to learn how harness the power of Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) Tapping?

Whether you’re dealing with stress, anxiety, or any emotional blockage, this manual is designed to guide you through the process of tapping, a simple yet effective technique that can lead to significant emotional relief and empowerment.

Tapping on these points stimulates the acupressure points of the body, sending a calming signal to your amygdala, which is the fight or flight center of your brain.

As you tap focusing on a particular fear or negative emotion, it causes your amygdala to shut off, collapsing your old neural pathway, and rewiring you to a new state.

It’s also incredibly easy to learn and you can practice it almost anywhere, address any concern, and sometimes even notice immediate results.

Introduction to Tapping Points

According to ancient Chinese acupressure, there are 9 meridian points on the body through which energy flows. The acupressure points are as follows…

Side of the Hand

This is the fleshy side under the pinky

Eyebrow Point

Where the inner eyebrow and bridge of the nose meet

Side of the Eye

The bony part outside the eye but not the temple

Under the Eye

Under the pupil on the bony ridge

Under the Nose

Where the upper lip and nose meet

Chin Crease

Under the lips in the chin dent

Collarbone Point

This point is just under the collar bone itself; move your hands from the hollow in your throat down your breastbone one inch and then over about two inches, and you will feel little dents there.

Under the Arm

A couple of inches below your armpit along the side of your ribs

Top of the Head

This is the back center of the top of your head, also known as the crown point. You can find it specifically by placing your thumbs behind your ears and feeling for the two small dents there, leaving your thumbs there, and bringing your middle fingers together over your head and down; that is your crown point.

How to Tap

Now that you are familiar with the points, let’s dive into the process of tapping to clear an emotionally charged issue.

Choose an emotion, problem, or feeling you wish to shift and create a reminder phrase for it. Suppose, let’s say you are nervous about an upcoming interview, and you wish you were feeling more confident. It can be helpful to notice where in your body you are feeling the emotion. You may notice you’re feeling it as “nervousness in your stomach.”

So, your “reminder phrase” will be…

“This nervous feeling in my stomach about my interview.”

Rate the intensity of that problem on a scale of 0 to 10, zero being no intensity whatsoever and ten being very high intensity.

Let’s say it feels like an eight to you. Do not overthink it, just go with the first number that comes to mind.

Now, create a setup statement pairing the problem with a statement of self-acceptance.

The most common one used is “I love and accept myself,” and begin tapping on the side of your hand, saying…

“Even though I have this nervous feeling in my stomach right now about my interview, I deeply and completely love and accept myself.”

Tap on the pinky side of your hand while repeating that statement 3 times.

You will want to use your fingertips to tap on the points, and you can use one or both hands to do the tapping.

Tap through the eight points of the tapping sequence in order, saying the reminder phrase at each point.

Take a deep breath and again rate the intensity of your issue from zero to ten.

Keep in mind, Don’t worry if the acceptance phrase does not feel true at first; that will shift over time. When you get to the top of your head, pause, and take a deep breath. Next, notice your zero to ten number again and observe what it is now. Generally speaking, you will want to tap on one issue until that number feels like a three or less.

However, if you’re looking for a hands-on, practical walkthrough of the process, I’d encourage you to watch the instructional video.
